Malignant hyperthermia is one of many virtual simulation experiences offered through iSim.

UAB Medicine is a large, complex health system with learners and clinical teams spread across many roles, specialties and practice environments. As simulation-based education continues to grow, one ongoing opportunity is finding flexible ways to connect people with high-quality learning resources when and where they need them.

iSim helps support that effort by offering virtual simulation experiences that can extend the reach of simulation beyond a single classroom, lab or scheduled event. These modules can be used as stand-alone learning experiences, pre-learning before hands-on simulation or follow-up resources after simulation activities.

This flexibility may be especially valuable as mobile simulation efforts continue to expand across the state. For partners in rural and community settings, iSim can provide easy access to standardized education on clinical processes, patient safety priorities, and high-risk or low-frequency events.

The iSim library includes a growing range of topics, such as:

  • Defibrillation and AED readiness
  • Central venous line removal
  • Malignant hyperthermia
  • Falls prevention
  • Blood administration
  • Telemetry safety
  • Stroke recognition and response
  • Active threat preparedness
  • And many more!

By pairing virtual simulation with mobile simulation and outreach efforts, iSim can help reinforce key concepts, promote consistent messaging and make simulation-informed learning more accessible to teams across UAB Medicine and partner organizations.
