iSim of the Month: Expanding Virtual Simulation with Immersive Technology
Virtual simulation continues to evolve, and immersive technology offers an exciting opportunity to build on what already works.

Embedded in each iSim experience is a brief survey that allows learners to share what worked well and where improvements are needed. Over the past year, this feedback has been consistently positive, with many learners highlighting the relevance and realism of the simulations.
Our pain communication simulation places learners in a realistic recovery-room scenario where assessment, explanation and response matter as much as clinical interventions.
This year’s Virtual Sim Room of Errors brought UAB Medicine’s commitment to patient safety to screens across the health system, allowing staff to explore a simulated care environment and identify potential safety hazards that can occur in everyday practice.
Virtual learning is more than a tool; it’s a reality. And a new VR equipment loan program from UAB Clinical Simulation will allow learners to sim virtually anywhere.
When it comes to procedures, preparation is just as important as performance. Our newest iSim, Chest Tube Setup (Neonate), is designed to strengthen the skills of setting up for the procedure. From gathering and organizing equipment to ensuring safety checks are complete, this module highlights the essential steps that allow the clinician performing the procedure to focus fully on patient care.
In simulation design, the setting isn’t just a backdrop; it’s part of the lesson. That’s why we take our cameras straight into the environments where the real work happens.
We’ve given our Personal Protective Equipment simulation a summer makeover—and it’s more than just a new look.
At UAB Clinical Simulation, we believe the best simulations are shaped by the people who use them. That’s why we’re excited to announce that our entire virtual simulation fleet has undergone a comprehensive makeover—driven directly by user feedback.
Communication plays a powerful role in shaping the patient experience—and this month’s featured module helps you sharpen that skill from multiple perspectives.
