On Sept.19, the UAB Mobile Simulation team, in partnership with Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama (RMCCA), hosted an exciting tabletop escape room simulation focused on sepsis management.

This event was part of Healthcare Simulation Week and provided an immersive learning experience that turned sepsis protocols into a series of engaging puzzles.

Participants were challenged to apply their knowledge of sepsis management as they worked together to solve the puzzles. Each problem focused on critical elements of sepsis care, including early recognition, timely treatment and the appropriate escalation of care. Learners had to collaborate, communicate and think critically to “break out” of the sepsis scenario, just as they would need to do in real-life clinical situations.

As Keiona Simpson, R.N., reflected, “Breaking out of the sepsis room brought such relief, just like the sense of relief I feel when patients recover after treatment.”
