This month, UAB Mobile Simulation is proud to highlight Phillip Davison, a clinical simulation specialist who plays a key role in supporting the mobile team.

Davison has been part of UAB Clinical Simulation for a little over a year and joined the Mobile Simulation team nine months ago. In his role as operational tech/specialist, he ensures each mobile session runs smoothly by managing equipment setup, coordinating technology, running simulations and troubleshooting on the move. His behind-the-scenes expertise helps bring high-quality, hands-on training directly to health-care teams across Alabama.

Davison has been with UAB Medicine for more than two decades, having served in such roles as unit secretary, patient care technician and respiratory sterile/equipment technician. In 2007, he received an Excellence Award of Service from the Liver Transplant Department in recognition of his outstanding commitment to patient care and teamwork.

His work with mobile simulation brings new rewards. He recalls one standout moment during a wound VAC procedural simulation, when learners were struck by the realism of the moulage and simulated skin. Their reaction, he said, demonstrated just how meaningful high-fidelity simulation can be for building skill and understanding.

“What I enjoy most about mobile simulation is seeing the learners’ reactions when we bring realistic, hands-on training directly to them,” he said. “Their engagement and excitement show the impact simulation has on their learning and confidence.”

UAB Medicine’s Clinical Simulation program offers opportunities for individuals and teams across UAB Medicine and beyond to practice before they deliver care. We encourage all who provide and support patient care to “Sim First.” Together, we can put our patients’ safety first.
