Mobile Simulation prescribes sterile compounding sim at Russell Medical

This spring, UAB Mobile Simulation helped Russell Medical Center fill a prescription for success.
On March 20, 2025, UAB Mobile Simulation hit the road for Russell Medical in Alexander City for a sterile compounding simulation aimed at sharpening the skills of pharmacy staff.
Partnering with Misty Gaddis, Pharm.D., U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) compliance manager at UAB Medicine, the simulation brought to life critical aseptic techniques and USP guidelines in a hands-on setting. Participants were challenged to perform gowning, gloving and medication compounding with precision, maintaining sterility to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
“This simulation brings a more hands-on approach to learning that an online teaching platform could not provide,” learner and certified pharmacy technician Lela Hall said. “It creates a safer working environment and promotes confidence in workers and their skills.”
This initiative not only strengthened best practices but also elevated the standard of care for sterile product preparation at Russell Medical.
