PICC line training offers personalized, interactive learning
By Mercedees Willis

On Jan. 16, the UAB Mobile Simulation Team, in collaboration with Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, conducted a specialized PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) line insertion simulation training. This highly focused session provided a single dedicated learner with four hours of personalized instruction, ensuring in-depth skill development and confidence-building.
The training was designed to support the implementation of Russell’s new PICC insertion policy, checklist and equipment. With a hands-on approach, the session covered sterile techniques, proper insertion procedures, troubleshooting methods and safety protocols, equipping the participant with essential skills for successful PICC line placement and management.
Reflecting on the experience, learner Jeff Perkett shared, “We’re starting a new program, and this simulation offers valuable preparation before final rep training and delivers the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.”
By offering targeted, real-world application of clinical skills, this training demonstrates the impact of simulation-based learning in enhancing patient care and procedural excellence. Learn more about UAB Mobile Simulation here.
