Clin Sim celebrates Healthcare Simulation Week
This is not a simulation; it’s a celebration!
UAB Clinical Simulation observed Healthcare Simulation Week Sept. 16-20. Hosted by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), Healthcare Simulation Week celebrates professionals across the globe who use simulation to improve the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of health-care delivery.
The week also serves to raise awareness in communities nationwide about how health-care simulation leads to safer, more knowledgeable patient care.
UAB Clinical Simulation hosted a booth in UAB Hospital’s high-traffic North Pavilion, featuring informational displays, giveaways, a prize drawing and several interactive experiences, including virtual reality, a chance to test one’s CPR skills and a “manikin” photo booth, wherein visitors could pose with one of Clin Sim’s high-fidelity manikins, which can blink, breathe, talk and more.
Clin Sim team members were also on hand to answer questions and explain health-care simulation to passersby.
“Simulation is a proven training strategy for all members of the health-care team; not just for clinical roles,” said Marjorie Lee White, M.D., vice president of UAB Clinical Simulation. “Simulation can support any area in the health system, from environmental services to admitting and beyond. Healthcare Simulation Week shines a welcome spotlight on our team of skilled professionals and colleagues worldwide, while encouraging others to reach out and see what sim can do for their department or team.”

UAB Medicine’s Clinical Simulation program offers opportunities for individuals and teams across UAB Medicine and beyond to practice before they deliver care. We encourage all who provide and support patient care to “SimFirst.” Together, we can put our patients’ safety first.
